THE SCIENCE: CANNABINOIDS & TERPENES

Cannabis isn’t magic—it’s chemistry.

And your body was built to receive it.

Inside every cannabis plant are cannabinoids and terpenes — the compounds responsible for its effects, flavor, and aroma. Think of cannabinoids as the “active ingredients” and terpenes as the “flavor and feel enhancers”. Together, they create the unique experience of cannabis.

Cannabinoids

meet the

Cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds in cannabis. Each cannabinoid interacts differently with the plant and contributes to the overall profile. Some of the most well-known include:

  • The primary cannabinoid associated with cannabis.

  • Widely known and non-intoxicating.

  • A minor cannabinoid that emerges as THC ages.

  • A structurally similar cannabinoid found in certain varieties.

  • Often called the “parent” cannabinoid, as it is a precursor to others.

Terpenes

meet the

Terpenes are aromatic oils found in cannabis as well as fruits, herbs, and flowers. They shape the plant’s scent, flavor, and personality. Common cannabis terpenes include:

  • Found in citrus peels, known for bright, citrus aromas.

  • Found in herbs like thyme and hops, with earthy and herbal notes.

  • Found in lavender, offering floral and spicy aromas.

  • Found in pine needles and rosemary, with a fresh, sharp aroma.
